The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII on Sunday, giving a Georgia Bulldog another chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
 
 
Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe played but did not record any stats for the Eagles in Sunday’s game. Ellerbe was signed by Philadelphia in November after injuries ravaged its linebacking corps. Ellerbe also won the Super Bowl XLVII title with Baltimore.
 
 
Former Georgia defender Phillip Daniels is the Eagles’ defensive quality control and assistant defensive line coach. Daniels recorded 244 stops at end, tackle, and linebacker for the Bulldogs from 1992-95 and was team captain his senior year. Daniels played in the NFL for 15 seasons with Seattle, Chicago, and Washington.
 
 
Keith Gray has been Philadelphia’s assistant strength and conditioning coach for the past six seasons. Gray was an assistant coach and then associate head strength coach from 1999-2012 at Georgia, working with football, gymnastics, and women’s tennis.
 
 
Center David Andrews served as a team captain and helped the Patriots roll up 613 total yards (500 passing, 113 rushing). He also recorded a tackle after a New England turnover.
 
 
Receiver Malcolm Mitchell finished the season on injured reserve due to a knee injury for New England.
 
 
Georgia has had at least one player advance to the Super Bowl for an SEC-leading 17 consecutive years.

Los Angeles Rams tailback Todd Gurley was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press at NFL Honors on Saturday. Gurley, who garnered 37 of 50 votes, churned out a league-best 2,093 scrimmage yards and finished second in the league with 1,305 rushing yards. He became only the third player in NFL history to tally 2,000 scrimmage yards, 10 rushing touchdowns and six receiving touchdowns — a feat replicated only by Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and O.J. Simpson. His 19 total touchdowns were the most by a Rams player since Faulk’s 21 in 2000.
 
 
Gurley, Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones, Carolina Panthers Thomas Davis, and Cincinnati defensive tackle Geno Atkins played in the Pro Bowl, which was won by the AFC 24-23. Gurley had five carries for nine yards and two catches for 13 yards, Davis recorded four tackles, and Atkins and Jones posted two tackles each.
 
 
Davis was inducted Friday into Georgia’s Circle of Honor, along with softball All-American Nicole Barber, three-time national diving champion Chris Colwill, and All-America shot putter Reese Hoffa.
