When: Wednesday, 6:30 P.M.

TV: SEC Network
As the Dawgs prepare for the upcoming game against No. 24 Alabama, there is one main concern for this tough conference battle: defense. In the past two out of three games, the Dawgs have given up 100+ points due to fast-paced play and many three-point shots in transition.
With a team like Alabama coming in as one of the highest-rated offenses in the country, scoring 89.7 PPG, and having one of the fastest paces of play, the Dawgs transition defense is going to be critical Wednesday night.
Although they have struggled in the past few games, Coach White has stressed the importance of getting back and getting a hand up in transition. Graduate transfer guard Noah Thomasson said that it starts on the offensive side of the ball, and that “good shots lead to good transition D”. While second-year forward Frank Anselem-Ibe also added that the game plan is to “slow them down”.
The Crimson Tide are led by senior guard Mark Sears. Sears is averaging 20 points per game which is top 3 in the SEC. He is also an elite on-ball defender and is truly the engine of their team. Sears and the Tide spread the floor offensively, shooting 11.4 threes a game (4th in CBB) making nearly 39% of them (12th in CBB).
This could cause problems if the Dawgs aren’t ready to defend. However, we have seen the Dawgs shut down high-volume shooting teams. Before the tough defensive stretch, the Dawgs were 44th in CBB in opponent field goal percentage. This game is going to force every player on the Dawgs to defend the perimeter and will cause a lot of pressure on every possession.
Road games have been tough in the SEC, and fans will play a big factor in tomorrow night’s game. Coach White and the Dawgs are hoping for a big showing and loud atmosphere to help them jump out to an early lead. This game means a lot to the team and the university and would be a big win on the resume come March.
How they stack up:
Georgia’s key wins: at FSU, at South Carolina
Alabama’s key wins: No. 8 Auburn, South Carolina, at Mississippi St.
Most recent meeting: Feb. 18, 2023 (ALA def. UGA, 108-59)
Series History: Alabama leads 98-52
