Georgia’s single regular season lost in 2017 came at the hands of the Auburn Tigers 40-17.
Gus Malzahn was interviewed at the end of the game saying, “We whipped the dog crap out of them, didn’t we?”
Auburn fittingly blasted Kendrick Lamar’s HUMBLE as the student section celebrated the beatdown.
To add salt to the wound Nick Fairley was also being honored during pregame before kickoff which brought back flashbacks to Aaron Murray and the 2010 contest.
Fortunately, there was redemption. Georgia would go on to destroy Auburn in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game, but don’t be mistaken the Bulldogs are not satisfied.
“It’s a rivalry game,” head coach Kirby Smart said. “I mean so many of our kids were recruited by them and so many vice versa. It’s always a rivalry game, and I think that a big part of that is being at your best when your best is needed. And that’s the challenge for our guys. We’re playing at home, at night, in our stadium, which I think is really important to our fans, important to our players to protect our home turf, and we want to put our best effort forward. And certainly going to have to with the challenge they present, because they’ve got a lot of good football players.”
You can guarantee one thing, Kirby Smart and his players have had this game circled since the beginning of the season and won’t need any extra motivation to get up for this game.
Even though the Bulldogs redeemed themselves in the SECCG, they still haven’t forgotten that night, and the fans are ready to give them a dose of Sanford Stadium.
