Georgia closed out its short run in the SEC Tournament with a 4-0 loss to Ole Miss in an elimination game. Following an 11-2 dismantling against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday night, the Bulldogs had a quick turnaround to face Ole Miss in an afternoon affair on Thursday.

Georgia was held to only five hits on the day and only had runners in scoring position on two occasions. Georgia finishes with a 1-2 record at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium and will now await a decision from the selection committee on its NCAA Tournament fate.

“We certainly haven’t played well the last two days but it’s still the full body of work,” said Georgia coach Scott Stricklin on his teams chances of getting an NCAA Tournament bid. “I stand by my statement, if we’re the best conference in the country, we should be the most represented… I still believe we’re in.”

Ole Miss starter Drew McDaniel bounced back after being roughed up by the Bulldogs’ offense in his last appearance on Saturday. On Georgia’s senior day, the Bulldogs scored five runs in three innings off of McDaniel. However, McDaniel looked like a completely different pitcher on Thursday.

McDaniel pitched 6.2 innings while only giving up four hits. He also registered 11 strikeouts. His fastball was clocked in the low-to-mid 90s while his slider was also very effective.

Strikeouts were a major problem for UGA in the SEC Tournament. Over the course of the three games that the Bulldogs played, their hitters combined to strikeout 38 times. They also only managed to score six runs, four of which came in the win on Tuesday against LSU.

“All three days we saw some really good arms but offensively, we didn’t have a good approach,” said Stricklin. “We were not good enough to win yesterday, not good enough to win today. We’ve got to find a way to get better. I feel like we’re going to be playing a couple more games at least and we need to clean up offensively for sure.”

Stricklin said that the team will have two days off, but the team will still practice after that in preparation for more games. The team will all watch the selection show together at 3 p.m. on Monday and then practice either before or after. The Bulldogs now have a 31-25 record on the season.
