Pat Allen has emerged on the Georgia Bulldogs offensive line as a contender for one of the final five spots, but he is not focused on being named a starter as much as he is being a dependable player for the team no matter where he is asked to play.

Allen has been practicing at left guard for the majority of the offseason and has impressed the coaching staff enough to consistently work with the first team at this position. Allen was a four-star 2016 prospect coming out of high school from Reisterstown, Maryland and is finally finding his place on the Bulldogs offensive line.

The redshirt sophomore is beginning to find a level of comfort at the left guard spot and is the early favorite to start at this position. Although Allen has received a ton of time at left guard, he does not want to be limited to this one spot on the offensive line. He wants to be dependable at any spot the coaches need him and he is looking to make an impact this year.

“I’m just trying to work for the team to be dependable for coach and my teammates,” said Allen. “I would say I’m very comfortable at left guard, but when coach needs it I have that experience with both sides.”

The Bulldogs offensive line struggled last season. Part of that struggle was due to lack of depth and competition at the different positions along the offensive front. If Allen can be an effective player at not only LG but at multiple positions on the line, then that could go a long way to helping develop much-needed depth for Georgia and give some of these 2017 freshmen time to get their legs under them. As of right now, it seems that Allen will start at left guard, but it remains to be seen of who the Bulldogs starting five will be next season.
