I spent my time today with the defensive backs and defensive linemen.

Here are a few notes:

David Marshall was back in the saddle running drills with the group, but he told us after practice that he was not doing any contact work yet. It was good to see him repping in full-pads again though.

I thought Jordan Davis looked like he is rounding back into shape after his injury at the end of the 2018 season. The defensive line was doing pass rush drill against bags and Davis looked to be at full speed.

Netori Johnson is a player who could help defensive line depth if he can earn playing time in 2019. Johnson was actively drilling but appears to shed some bad weight.

I watched the defensive backs for more than 1/2 of the observation period. It is always risky to try to pick out who is running first, second or third teams in these drills because they are just that – drills. But if I had to make a stab at it, I go with Stokes, Reed, Campbell and LeCounte as the ones.

Otis Reese looks better every time I see him.

Tyrique Stevenson was running with the unit and looking no worse for his episode over the weekend.

I noted last week that Dan Lanning is soft-spoken as coaches go, but Georgia’s new secondary coach Charlton Warren is anything but soft-spoken. He is loud, direct and forceful. He has their attention, but that is not to say that Lanning does not. They have different styles.
