Redshirt junior Prather Hudson has been a workhorse walk-on running back and special teams player for the Unversity of Georgia football team since he stepped on campus back in 2016. Hudson was made available to the media after Thursday’s practice and talked about his time at UGA and the loaded running back room.

So how talented is this group of backs and how fierce has the competition been as the team prepares for Vanderbilt?
“It’s definitely RBU, for sure. We’ve got so many talented people from Zamir [White], [James] Cook, Brian Herrien, everybody’s ballin’ for a spot for a chance to play on Saturday,” said Prather Hudson. “Everybody’s making each other better each and every day and that’s a competition right now.”
How does this group of running backs compare to some of the other backs you’ve seen during your time at Georgia?
“We always have a brand of football – tough, hard, and physical. That’s what we always try to do. Nick Chubb was that way. Sony Michel was that way. Whenever we need to be physical, we’re going to be physical,” said Hudson. “That’s kind of our identity and that’s how it’s always been.”

“We all have our different strengths and weaknesses. (James) Cook is really, really good at getting out in the slot and catching some balls,” said Hudson. … “He can do it all. That’s for sure. It’s fun to see him go out there and play every day. He’s ready to step up and make some big plays.“
What about the freshman, Kenny McIntosh?
“McIntosh is a Florida boy. He’s fast. He’s used to that speed down there,” said Hudson. … “You see a little similarity with (James) Cook a little bit getting out in the slot, catch some passes, and run between the tackles.”
How do make sure you are on the bus for games given how many talented running backs there are?
“Special teams is huge, obviously, that’s how I get on the bus and that’s how I’m going to play this year,” said Hudson. “I’m always willing to play running back but whenever my time comes, I’ll be ready. If I shy away from competition now, there’s no expectation that I can make it in the league if I do that now. This is the best of the best and this is how it’s going to be in the league so I’ll be prepared for that.”
Hudson played in all of Georgia’s 14 games last season, and as a redshirt freshman in 2016, Hudson played in 15 games for the Bulldogs. In the last two years, he has made the 70-man travel roster for every away game.
What is the team focusing on right now during practice?
“You’ve got to get better at the little things. On special teams, you’re getting the right depth in your dropbacks, getting the right depth in your route running, just little things that make the difference in the game on game day,” said Hudson. “So that’s kind of what we’re focusing on right now.”
What is your perspective on Zamir White and what he has been through?
“He’s a battler. He’s been through a lot. You can tell that he is battle-worn and is ready to go. He’s ready to get after it each and every day,” said Prather Hudson. “I’ve seen drastic strides from him from a year ago in just his maturity and the way he looks at things; so, he’ll be ready.”

“During the scrimmage, he (Zamir White) constantly shows flashes there, running between the tackles,” Hudson added. “He’s not scared to lower his shoulder and hit the boom a little bit. That’s fun to watch.”
Was is it your “dream” to play at Georgia?
“It’s kind of funny. I grew up in Columbus, GA and I was actually a big Auburn fan. I hate to say it back in the day,” said Prather Hudson. “But I jumped at the opportunity. Coach (Kirby) Smart and his staff called; so, I was ready to play big-time football. Ready to get that opportunity and make the most of it.”
As you look back on your career at the University of Georgia, what are your thoughts on your journey so far?
“When I look back on it, it’s all gone really, really fast. The days are long but the years are short,” said Hudson. “It’s been a fun ride, but I’m not done yet. I’m ready to see what’s next.”
