What life lessons did you learn while at UGA?
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. I made a lot of life long friends while at UGA. These friendships have proven to be much more important than anything that I learned in a classroom.
What professor did you most admire?
Larry Darnell Foote, Professor of Hard Knocks at UGA. Time spent with Larry taught me invaluable lessons of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My wife and two sons.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Winston Churchill. He saved western civilization, but more importantly he was also an amateur brick layer. Oddly, brick laying is one of my more relaxing hobbies.
Who are your heroes in real life?
My immediate and extended family. I am fortunate to have an enormous family that is full of colorful characters. It’s hard not to laugh when I am around them.
Quote to live by:
“Ya gotta wanna. If ya don’t wanna, ya ain’t gonna” – my grandfather, Charles Chisolm.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
If 2nd and 26 had been an interception …
What is your most marked characteristic?
The ability not to take myself too seriously.
What do you most value in your friends?
The best friends in life are those that, even if you have not seen them in years, you can pick up right where you left off. I have been lucky to keep up with quite a few of my buddies from UGA and from growing up. There is not much better than laughing and cutting up with old pals.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Breaking six feet in height would be a good start.
Who are your favorite writers?
I grew up with a mother who was a librarian, so I am a big reader. I have too many favorite authors to list. That being said, I will echo the sentiments of President Jimmy Carter and Secretary of State Dean Rusk that the two most important books to keep next to your bed are the Holy Bible and Sir Thomas Carlyle’s masterpiece – Sartor Resartus.
Fave social media and who to follow?
I avoid social media at all costs. However, www.thedawgbone.com is a daily must read for all Dawg fans. Deke, Burt, Charles, and Ham keep me up to date with all of my Dawg needs.
