One of the top uncommitted receivers in the 2021 recruiting cycle released his top-five schools on Saturday.
Four-star prospect Malcolm Johnson named a list of Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Florida. He currently does not have an announcement date set, though.
The Alexandria, Va. native is ranked the nation’s No. 36 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is ranked the nation’s No. 118 overall prospect and No. 3 player in Virginia.
In addition to being a star on the football field, Johnson is also a stellar track athlete as well. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect plans to participate in both sports during his college career. This past winter he competed in the 55-meter race with a time of 6.26 seconds.
“I am definitely running track, and if I do get an opportunity to go to the (NFL), then I will definitely take that but I am not sure how that is going to line up,” Johnson said this summer. “But I do want to do track. I would say another thing is an offense that knows how to use speed. Location is not a make-or-break thing. I definitely think about it, but my parents, they already said they were going to be there at games.”
He was not able to make any trips to campuses because his recruitment started late, and the current pandemic situation also altered his plans. He was supposed to visit Alabama, LSU and Auburn in March before the NCAA shut down visits.
As of right now, there is no clear frontrunner and he considers his recruitment to be wide open between his top-five choices.
When asked about Georgia, he explained that the Bulldogs stood out to him because of the offense and the talented personnel the program has.
“Me and my family were really impressed with Georgia and how unique it is as far as on the field and just off the field as well,” Johnson said. “I felt that is really important in making that decision, when the time comes.”
The speedster hauled in 47 passes for 832 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season for St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in 2019.
