Week One of college football was as eventful as it always tends to be. Blue-blood programs fell, and unexpected underdogs rose to the occasion. It is certainly easy to overreact, as our emotions are exaggerated after months without football, but it is important to reference the words of Coach Kirby Smart from Tuesday’s presser: ‘Nobody has to be the best after Week One.’

Georgia, after a slow offensive start, moved the ball exceptionally well against UT Martin in the second half. While people expected the back-to-back national champions to start fast and win by 80, as some teams miraculously did in Week One, Georgia didn’t. But that’s okay. Georgia was dealing with Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Ladd McConkey out, two new offensive tackles, a depleted running back room, a new starting quarterback, and a new offensive coordinator. They didn’t start fast? So what. It doesn’t matter. It was one half of football; the defense was pitching a shutout, and Georgia had a three-possession lead.

All offseason, Georgia’s offense has been raved about. They picked up talented receivers in the portal, with Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey returning, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint ready to break out, the offensive line being the most talented they’ve been in years, and Stetson Bennett’s replacement having been in Georgia’s national championship system for four years now. While patience is something we all lack, sometimes it just takes a few drives to get settled.

Carson Beck, in his first game starting, threw for just under 300 yards, was responsible for two touchdowns, and had zero turnovers, all in just two and a half quarters of work. When he was taken out, Georgia had just scored back-to-back touchdowns, and the offense was rolling.

The point is that Georgia is going to be the team we expect them to be. They are physical, dominant, have athletes all over the field, are experienced in key parts of the team, and possess a coaching staff capable of putting the team in the right situations to succeed. While others may have flashed in Week One, it’s necessary to remember that championship DNA is earned. It’s up to the rest of college football to dethrone the Bulldogs, and as this team hits their stride, that will be difficult to do.
