Georgia’s offense overcame mistakes and came up big when it counted against the Gators. The Bulldogs won 36-17 over Florida, and now have a two-game winning streak over the Gators. After the game, head coach Kirby Smart described his team as a group of men that are tough as they come. He called them resilient.

Below are players on the offense that proved to be some of the most resilient during the win over Florida. These players aren’t the only ones who played well against the Gators but are the ones to note. 

Jake Fromm

Jake Fromm appeared back to the quarterback Georgia fans all know and love. He completed 17-24 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns. After one of his worst games against LSU, it was unknown if the poor play would continue or not. Well, it didn’t he made clutch throws and a lot of times made it look effortless. Fromm made quick decisions and good ones at that.

“I  thought Jake was a competitor. Jake works as hard as any man on our team,” Smart said about his quarterback. “He believes in the players around him, understands what we’re trying to do offensively and he did a good job dealing out the ball when he had an opportunity and made some big throws to some guys that were open, and guys who that were in tight coverage.”

Fromm didn’t let the outside noise affect his play, and he showed a lot of composure. He was only sacked once during the game. Georgia completed 57 percent of its third down and scored all four touchdowns on third-down.  He even picked up a third-down conversion with his legs.

“I thought the critical third downs on several drives; Jake made good throws. We ended up 8-14 on third downs, and I know in the first half we weren’t that good, so a lot of those were second-half third-down conversions,” Smart commented on Fromm’s ability to continue drives.

Fromm came to play, did his job and got his team the win.

Jeremiah Holloman

Jeremiah Holloman got his first collegiate start for the Bulldogs for Saturday’s game. He had four catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Despite dropping the ball early in the game, Holloman continued to get open and be a guy Fromm could count on throughout the game. He played physical and made some of those Gator defensive backs look sloppy. Both of his touchdown catches came on 3rd and 16 and 3rd and 2. Holloman came up big for the Bulldogs on Saturday, and I expect more starts to come his way.

“J.J. Holloman is a worker. This guy meets, lifts, works out, blocks, plays on special teams and he never says a word. He just works, and it paid off for him today,” Smart commented. He has a good rapport with Jake, he feels comfortable with him and he made some catches. He overcame a lot too. The opening play of the drive we throw a 5-yard hitch out there and he dropped it, but he didn’t let that affect him. And that’s where to me the mental conditioning of this team continues to grow.”

Holloman does his job, and it continues to pay off for him this season. After eight games, he is the third leading receiver with 15 catches 282 yards and four scores.

Kendall Baker

Kendall Baker isn’t a name that gets called a lot this season. After starting 14 of the 15 games last year, he has only played sparingly in six of the seven games. Despite losing his starting spot, Baker seems to keep working hard, and Saturday’s game showed that.

“I was proud of Kendall Baker,” Smart stated. “Here is a kid who started and played all these games last year and he has been resilient, he continues to work, doesn’t pout and wine, he just plays all the position on the front. And then you plug-and-play in an SEC game…and he just goes into the game and just plays and played pretty good.”

Lamont Gaillard

Lamont Gaillard continues to emerge as one of the main leaders of this team. He rallies his offensive line together; help keeps Jake Fromm focused, and isn’t afraid to get in his teammates face. After the offense got stuffed on the one-yard line and forced to kick a field goal, Gaillard came off the field mad. When an offensive line cannot get a one-yard push, it can be defeating. However, after that stop the next few times we saw the offense, that line blocked to perfection. He has a lot of say-so, and those young guys look up to him. His resilience to not let his teammates back down is why he gets included on this list. Gaillard gets better each game and him, and he plays with a purpose.

D’Andre Swift

D’Andre Swift finally accomplished his first 100-yard rushing game as a Georgia Bulldog. Through  23 games as a Bulldog, he has gotten close to the 100-yard mark but never got over the hump. Before the Florida game, he topped out at 72 yards against LSU.  Last year, his high was 94 yards against Missouri. Swift scored the only rushing touchdown of the game on a 33-yard run that secured the Georgia win.

He toted the rock 12 times for 104 yards and one touchdown against the Gators. Swift also had a 21-yard run where he juked Gator safety Donovan Stiner that helped Georgia continue that drive. After eight games, Swift is the second leading rusher with 83 carries for 466 yards and five touchdowns. He averages 5.6 yards a carry. Swift continues to get better each week and after this performance could see him get a few more opportunities.
