After losing to Georgia 80-63 in Wednesday night’s men’s college basketball game in Athens, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes talks about the loss and the game.
Barnes on tonight’s game:
“There’s not a whole lot I can say about our guys. I’m disappointed in just about everything you can be disappointed in. I didn’t think we had a competitive fight or spirit at all, even from the beginning. We know we’ve struggled to score, but when you leave 14 points at the rim on shots that are really not contested, you’ve got to score those. Defensively, we weren’t very good. We just didn’t put up the fight we normally do, and it was disappointing.”
Barnes on not scoring points and relying on defense:
“[There were] too many soft plays. Guys [were] going to the basket instead of moving [their] feet to make a play. [We had] ticky-tack fouls. That’s soft. We had at least three of them. John [Fulkerson] had two of them, [Josiah-Jordan James] had one or two. We just weren’t alert. Those are just soft plays, and when you make plays like that, you don’t deserve to win.”
