University of Georgia right-hander Robert Tyler has been named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and the Southeastern Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Tyler, a 6-4, 226-pound native of Cordele, Ga., was dominating in leading Georgia to a 7-1 win over No. 21 Alabama last Friday. He carried a no-hitter through 8.2 innings and a perfect game to the seventh inning. He surrendered a two-out, pinch-hit solo home run before finishing with a one-hitter.

He had a stretch of 15.1 scoreless and hitless innings pitched in SEC action (a span of 53 batters faced between hits, covering three games until the home run in the ninth Friday). Tyler faced just 29 Crimson Tide batters in registering his second career complete game.>

Collegiate Baseball recognizes a handful of standout each week for Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors. Tyler was among the pitchers honored for the second time this year.

Tyler’s strong performance was pivotal for the Bulldogs after they played a 13-inning game the night before that lasted a school record five hours and 12 minutes. Tyler’s one-hitter was the first by a Bulldog in 22 seasons (John Hill versus Winthrop in 1994). Also, it was Georgia’s first complete game win at home since 2014 when Ryan Lawlor defeated No. 7 South Carolina 3-1.

Tyler shared this week’s SEC honor with Mississippi State’s Dakota Hudson (4-1, 0.92 ERA) who threw a complete game to beat Ole Miss 3-1, allowing one unearned run on four hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts. Hudson has yet to give up an earned run in three SEC starts covering 25 innings.

For the year, Tyler is 3-1 with a 2.40 ERA in seven starts. In 41.1 innings pitched, he has 54 strikeouts and 19 walks, holding opponents to a .130 batting average. Earlier this year, he was honored as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week as selected by Collegiate Baseball. This came after he struck out a career high 13 in only five innings as part of an Opening Day performance to beat Georgia Southern.

Georgia (17-12) returns to action Tuesday when it plays host to 12^th-ranked Clemson (21-7). First pitch at Foley Field will be at 7 p.m. and available on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldogs Sports Network from IMG.
