Roquan Smith is ready to get the season underway and is excited to play a team like Appalachian State, who has multiple offensive weapons.
The Mountaineers have a plethora of weapons on the offensive side of the ball and their offensive success starts with senior quarterback Taylor Lamb. The four-year starter is not only effective through the air, but he is also a mobile quarterback that can get it done on the ground with his legs. Smith understands how deadly Lamb can be and the challenge he will present for the Bulldogs defense.
“I feel like he can do many things, he can sit in the pocket and he can throw it or if everything else fails he can run,” said Smith. “He’s a great quarterback.”
Smith mentions that the team must play disciplined defense if they hope to contain the Mountaineers’ offense and this can especially be the case for their rushing attack. He went on to compliment the Mountaineers junior running back, Jalin Moore, for being a great downhill runner that could easily play in the SEC. Coach Kirby Smart also mentioned that he believed Moore is an SEC caliber back and defending their rushing attack would be a test.
The Bulldogs definitely have a great challenge in front of them against an underrated Mountaineers offense and they will have to play disciplined defense if they hope to stop them. With Smith leading the Bulldogs front seven, the battle against the Mountaineers rushing attack could make or break the game for the team in their opener.
