Inside linebacker Roquan Smith says that Georgia’s offense is not to blame for Saturday’s 40-17 loss to Auburn. The junior says the Bulldogs didn’t play their brand of football on defense and that is the reason the Bulldogs came up short against the Tigers at Jordan-Hare.
“You cannot blame them (the Georgia offense) or anything like that because it all boils down to the defense and when we are out there on the field; how we’re going to stop them,” said Roquan. “They scored the points on us. They didn’t score on the offense.”
Roquan added: “Well, it all comes back down to us. It’s nothing they did special. They ran the ball and it is what it is. We had a lot of mistakes. We just didn’t play our brand of football on defense. We are just going to have to go from here and correct that.”
Was the junior inside linebacker surprised that Auburn played the way they did against Georgia and that the Bulldogs lost the game?
“You cannot really say it’s a surprise,” said Roquan. “But you never go into a game expecting to lose. It’s a reality check, and we’ll get better from here. I can promise you that.”
