No. 27 returned to Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium two years after suffering a season-ending knee injury versus the Volunteers in 2015. Chubb ran the ball 16 times for 109 yards this past Saturday to help lead the Bulldogs to a 41-0 shutout victory over the Volunteers for sweet, sweet revenge. With that performance, the Cedartown, GA native went over the century mark on the ground for the twentieth time during his collegiate career, and he is a solid No. 2 in the history of the Georgia program in career rushing yards with 3,904, just behind the legendary Herschel Walker. So far this season, Chubb has carried the ball 75 times in 5 games, rushing for 480 yards and 8 touchdowns. He is on pace to rush for 1,100 yards during the 12-game regular season.
This is not the first time that Chubb has been named the Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week after Georgia’s 33-24 win over No. 22 North Carolina last year when he rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. He was also named the Freshman of the Week five times back in 2014.
Chubb is the Bulldogs’ third player to receive a SEC weekly honor this season and is the first Offensive Player to do so this year. Senior outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter was named the Defensive Player of the Week after the win at No. 24 Notre Dame on September 9th and freshman quarterback Jake Fromm earned Freshman of the Week honors in the victory over No. 17 Mississippi State on September 23rd.
Nick Chubb and the No. 5 Bulldogs travel back to the state of Tennessee this Saturday to Nashville to take on (3-2) Vanderbilt, a SEC East Noon-time showdown that will be televised on ESPN
