In his post-practice presser, Coach Smart listed several highlights (and lowlights) from Saturday’s scrimmage:
 
 

• Reps were evenly split between the units with 60 each for the ones and twos. The third group got about 20 reps.
• No “significant” injuries but: Solomon Kindley suffered a sprained ankle – Dominick Sanders has a minor MCL and could have continued – Jayson Stanley was still not cleared to participate in full-contact work – Riley Ridley is not cleared for contact but is running and participating in other drills.
• Mecole Hardman played offense exclusively. Mecole is getting a prolonged look on the offensive side of the ball this spring as UGA looks for a replacement for Isaiah McKenzie’s production from 2016.
• Smart noted that tackling continues to be an issue for the defense, but pointed out that part of the problem could be the quality of Georgia’s offensive skill players. However, Kirby noted that “knock-back” tackling (zero yards after contact) was not where it should be.
• There were 3 turnovers (a fumble and 2 interceptions) on 130 to 140 snaps.
• Quarterbacks Eason and Fromm are more comfortable but still developing. Smart said that Eason’s decision making and accuracy have improved and followed with a note that Jacob is being challenged by Jake Fromm, implying that Fromm’s push may be a significant factor in Eason’s improvement. Kirby also singled out third string QB Sam Vaughn for praise, saying he did a “nice job.”
• Rodrigo Blankenship had a good day kicking field goals. Cameron Nizialek (transfer from Columbia University) hit all but one of his punts over 40 yards.
• Kirby named Brian Herrien (offense) and J.R. Reed (defense) as scrimmage stand-outs.
