Georgia vs Kentucky game day 2016 edit by Bob Miller
Georgia vs Kentucky

Georgia faces Kentucky this week in a SEC East showdown on the road. The game will be a test of grit and determination between the two teams. It’s time for the Bulldogs to finally come into their own this season. Here are the three things the Bulldogs have to do in order to bring home the win in Georgia vs Kentucky.

1. Establish the Run:

This is something that the media mentions every week.  However, when there is Nick Chubb and Sony Michel on the team, success in this area is a must, especially when both tailbacks aren’t happy about how the running plays are not executing like they should. When the two star running backs complain, it should be motivation for Jim Chaney, to feed them the ball amd give them a chance to see what they can do.

Establishing the run will give the offense the opportunity to spread things out a little more and not depend on a true freshman quarterback, Jacob Eason, to put it in the air so much. It’s time to get the two leaders going and get them running the ball. Without the running game, the Dawgs depend on a passing game that has inconsistent at best to not very successful so far.

2. Have to Stop the Run:

The defense must be able to stop Kentucky’s running game if the Dawgs want to come out on top. Kentucky has an impressive tailback, Stanley “Boom” Williams who will be looking for blood. After coming off two impressive games where he back to back 100 yard plus performances, and he is not intimidated by the Bulldogs run defense.

If any time in the season the Georgia front needs to stand their ground and be stingy, then it would be this game. Kentucky is riding high and sitting pretty in 2nd place in the SEC East, riding a four-game winning streak and looking to become bowl eligible for the first time in over six years. The Georgia defense needs to get in there and make the Wildcat offense completely one dimensional. The good news is that this is the strength of this year’s Bulldog D.

3. Win the Special Teams Battle:

The special team’s aspect for the Bulldogs hasn’t been pretty all year, especially when it comes to punting. There has been a season-long battle between the punters, and just overall the special teams have been a constant work in progress. However, there is talent for the Dawgs here, in this area. They just need to eliminate the dumb mistakes.

The Dawgs field goal and place kickers must also find a way to out kick Kentucky’s Austin Macginnis. Even if the Georgia defense stops the Wildcat offense, MacGinnis is still a lethal weapon. He has a strong leg, and Coach Bob Stoops isn’t afraid to use it.

Georgia must punt high hangers to allow the coverage to get down the field, and Rodrigo Blankenship must kick the ball like it’s weightless. In other words, Georgia must kick the ball well, better than they have all season, as this game could very well come down to field goals.

To Sum Up:

This Bulldog team has to get back to playing the Georgia Football the fans know and love. They must make momentum on offense by switching up plays and run the ball, and then be a brick wall on defense as well as solid and stable on special teams. This matchup is a test for Coach Kirby Smart and his team, and it is one he needs to pass.
