University of Georgia senior softball student-athlete Alyssa DiCarlo was drafted by the Chicago Bandits Monday evening in the National Pro Fastpitch (NFP) Draft. The draft was held at Acme Feed & Seed in Nashville, Tennessee.
DiCarlo was taken as the fourth-overall pick of the 2019 NPF Draft.
“This is a testament to what a prolific hitter Alyssa is,” head coach Lu Harris-Champer said. “She’s an outstanding player not only on the field but off the field as well. She’s the kind of person who works day in and day out for her team and is selfless and wants to be there for her team.”
The draft announcement came in the fourth inning of #13 Georgia’s series finale at #5 Alabama Monday evening.
DiCarlo, a native of Glendale, Arizona, becomes the 14th player drafted out of Georgia in the history of the NPF Draft, which began in 2007. 2019 is the fourth-straight year a Bulldog has been chosen in the draft and the sixth in that span.
“It’s awesome that our student-athletes have the opportunity to be drafted and continue their careers on the professional level,” Harris-Champer added. “These women love softball, they love playing the game and opportunities like this are a big deal. If you look at the MLB, players may not be at their best right out of college; maybe five or 10 years down the road they’re at their best, so to have the opportunity to continue to grow your game is huge. She’s the kind of player to help any team to success.”
The Bandits have drafted three players from Georgia in the history of the draft, the first being Megan Wiggins in 2011. DiCarlo will join Georgia assistant coach Rachele Fico on the Bandits along with former Bulldog Kristyn Sandberg.
This season, DiCarlo has shattered Georgia’s career home runs, RBI, and extra-base hit records. Entering Monday’s game, she has knocked 20 home runs, the fastest Bulldog to reach the mark in a season, and has driven in 49 runs while hitting .414. She’s slugging 1.052 with a .561
