SEC Media Daze

SEC Media Days, College Football Hall of Fame edit by Bob Miller

Han Vance in Atlanta: The SEC Media Days has finally been relocated to the New South, with a move to a giant international media market, from a much smaller market. The conference that won seven national championships in a row, the conference that contains BAMA, is simply too big and rich for the state of Alabama, anymore.

This may be a harbinger, should be foreshadowing of actual office relocation. Way back when, the first SEC championship game was played in the old, decaying Iron Bowl in Birmingham. The basically home-standing Tide edged the Gators on a late interception, by a soon-to-be-ineligible player who would set that fabled program back years with his greed. They got that one more title, though. League and national, as Roy Kramer’s vision for a conference championship game, the first of its kind, led to all this sensational NCAA postseason action. Not long before he realized the value of playing the game in what was once dubbed the fastest-growing civilization in the history of mankind, the City too Busy to Hate, which left the old, industrial Magic City in its wake in the aftermath of the civil rights era. The game has been a huge success in The ATL, the league flourishing.

Georgia has been featured in the annual slugfest this past season and won it two additional times, also dropping it thrice. Nobody rightly cries about it being a de facto home game for the Dawgs, though, as all Southern schools are well represented in the only true megalopolis of the real South, where the economy booms big.

Now, finally, the SEC moves its huge event, what some call Media Daze, the rambling talkfest, to the home of CNN, Cox, Turner. Notably missing is the stupidly Charlotte-based SEC Network. They too should pay the higher rent and relocate to the place where college football matters most. Home of the College Football Hall of Fame, Atlanta is the World Capital of College Football, y’all.

I feel it is only a matter of time before the league office itself relocates here, further validating itself as modern and popular.
