No. 8 seed Georgia will face No. 9 seed Tennessee in round 2 of the 2017 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.

 
 
The Bulldogs finished the regular season at 18-13 overall and 9-9 in the SEC…and winners of five of their last seven. Georgia was No. 53 in Monday’s edition of the NCAA RPI, with the No. 14 strength of schedule nationally.
 
 
J.J. Frazier, who was named first-team All-SEC on Tuesday, keyed the Bulldogs’ late-season winning surge. The 5-10, 155-pound senior has scored 27.7 ppg over Georgia’s last seven contests, upping his season average from 16.0 ppg to 18.7 ppg in the process.
 
 
With his 24 points at Arkansas last Saturday, Frazier inched past injured Yante Maten to become Georgia’s leading scorer…by the narrowest of margins. Frazier is averaging 18.68 ppg, while Maten, who also was named first-team All-SEC, is at 18.67 ppg.
 
 
Frazier’s production helped offset the loss of Maten, who was the SEC’s second-leading scorer for much of the 2016-17 campaign. Maten, one of 10 players on the final watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award as the nation’s premier center, suffered a sprained right knee 95 seconds in to the Feb. 18 game against No. 13 Kentucky.
 
 
Juwan Parker has been Georgia’s third-leading scorer for the majority of the season but stepped up his production in league play. Parker averaged 8.0 ppg in non-conference games but contributed 10.4 ppg in SEC action, with double-digit scoring outputs in a dozen conference games. That has upped his season average to 9.5 ppg.
 
 
Tennessee improved to 16-15 overall and 8-10 in the SEC with a dramatic 69-54 victory over Alabama in the regular-season finale. The Vols rallied from a 16-point, second-half deficit to top the Tide.
 
 
Robert Hubbs III averages a team-best 13.9 ppg, while Grant Williams chips in 12.8 ppg. A balanced offense features five more Volunteers contributing between 6.2-8.2 ppg.
 
 

The Starting Five

UT leads the overall series with UGA, 94-58, including a 5-3 mark in SEC Tournament play. UGA has won three of the last four SEC Tourney matchups.
 
 
J.J. Frazier has averaged 27.7 ppg over UGA’s last seven outings, upping his average from 16.0 ppg to 18.7 ppg.
 
 
Derek Ogbeide is averaging 9.6 rpg during UGA’s last 12 contests, with seven double-digit efforts during that span.
 
 
Juwan Parker had one double-digit scoring performance in his first 58 games at UGA. In his last 23 games, he has hit double figures 14 times, including 12 of 18 SEC outings.
 
 
Mark Fox is the first coach ever to lead UGA to three straight 20-win finishes. UGA has notched three consecutive 20-win efforts two times in 111 seasons.
