The No. 14/16 Georgia softball team fell 2-1 to the No. 4/5 Alabama Crimson Tide in the quarterfinals of the SEC Softball Tournament at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La. Georgia falls to 40-14 on the year, while Alabama improves to 42-11.

Brittany Gray (14-6) suffered the loss for Georgia. She allowed just two runs on three hits and four walks. Alexis Osorio (17-7) got the win after allowed just one unearned run on two hits. She struck out 12 batters.

Alabama got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Marisa Runyon.

The Bulldogs answered in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1. Cortni Emanuel registered Georgia’s first hit of the day with a single off the glove of the Alabama third baseman. After Emanuel stole second, Alex Hugo legged out an infield single. The throw to first sailed wide, allowing C. Emanuel to round third base and score the tying run.

The Crimson Tide retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single up the middle by Runyon, giving Alabama a 2-1 lead.

Hugo led off the seventh with a walk and moved to third, but was left stranded as the final batter struck out.

Georgia will learn its NCAA Tournament fate this Sunday, May 10 at 10 p.m. The selection show will air on ESPNU.
