The No. 8 seed Lady Bulldogs will face No. 9 seed Auburn in round two of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 12 noon ET.

THE OPENING TIP

Georgia enters the SEC Tournament having won five of its final eight conference games to earn the No. 8 seed.

The Lady Bulldogs finished eighth in the SEC standings after being picked 12th by league coaches and 10th by media in this year’s preseason poll.

A big reason for Georgia’s turnaround from a 2-6 start to a 5-3 finish in SEC play, has been the play of All-SEC second team member Pachis Roberts and SEC All-Defensive Team honoree Caliya Robinson. Roberts has scored in double figures in 14 of 16 SEC contests (23 of 29 games overall) while Robinson leads the SEC in blocked shots per game (2.4) and is averaging 16.5 ppg in the last eight contests.

Georgia is tied with Auburn for the third-most SEC Tournament titles with four (1983, 1984, 1986 and 2001). The Lady Bulldogs are 4-2 all-time as the No. 8 seed, finishing as runner-up in 1993 as the eighth-seeded team.

This is the second time this season Georgia and Auburn have faced each other. The Lady Bulldogs took the first meeting, 57-51, at Auburn thanks to 13 points from Caliya Robinson and 12 from Mackenzie Engram.

Georgia and Auburn have split the last 10 meetings, 5-5, with the Lady Bulldogs owning a 28-18 series advantage. Georgia is 2-3 all-time against the Tigers in SEC Tourney. The winner of Thursday’s contest takes on No. 1 seed South Carolina at noon ET on Friday in the quarterfinals.
