Today Georgia takes on the Austin Peay Governors for the opening day of the 2018 season! 3 Things to Expect from the Game

1: Georgia uses more than one Quarterback

 
Jake Fromm should get the start today and will likely only play through the first half, especially if the Bulldogs get a quick lead. This game is an excellent opportunity to allow Justin Fields to get some minutes under center in a game type setting. Both guys should see a lot of the field and expect both of them to do well. Fromm and Fields may even see the field at the same time if Georgia decides to pull out the wild dawg formation. Coach Smart said himself that its possible to see six different Georgia players at quarterback. He mentioned that Holyfield had done some work in the wild dawg as has Brian Herrien, and D’Andre Swift. I’ve seen James Cook take some snaps at QB during fall camp too.  Georgia also has back up quarterbacks Mason Wood, John Seter, and Matthew Downing. If the Bulldogs have a commanding enough lead, we could end up seeing one of those three guys take some reps.
 

2: A lot of Freshmen Could see Playing time

The Bulldogs could play up to 14 true-freshmen against the Governors. Guys like Tyson Campbell, Brenton Cox, Adam Anderson are three guys who could potentially get the start at their positions. Some other names that could see the field are Fields, Cook, Kearis Jackson, Tommy Bush, Otis Reese, Quay Walker, Christopher Smith, Channing Tindell, Cade Mays, Jamaree Salyer, and Jake Camarda. There are more true-freshmen than that on the roster, but those are the ones likely to see some playing time. However, more of the hallowed 2018 class could see the field. This game is a great time to get these young guys feet wet. The more experience they have, the better, the time to be called up could happen at any time.
 

3: Playing to get the Job done

Georgia is headed into this game with the same mindset as every other game; it’s a business transaction. However, in this game, I expect it to be over and over early. I’m not dissing Austin Peay because they’re a well-coached football team that has a lot of playmakers. The Bulldogs have something to prove because the last time they were on the field, it was heartbreaking. I expect Georgia’s defense to be lights out and hungry. It wouldn’t surprise me if some guys got to wear the spiked shoulder pads a couple of times. Finally look for Georgia’s offense to come in and put points on the board. On the ground and in the air, I expect Georgia to score easily against the Governors. Fromm will likely have 2-4 TD’s and then between the studs in the RBU stable, they’re likely to have a few as well.

SL’s Score Prediction

I’ve waited all week long to reveal my score prediction for this game. There’s no doubt about it that Georgia should handle Austin Peay with ease. The Bulldogs should come in handle the game and put it away in the first half. I expect to see a lot of points scored and to see a lot of new faces get some playing time. It wouldn’t surprise me to not see Jake Fromm at all in the second half of the game. Georgia handles the Governors 48-0 and picks up its first shutout of the season. The Bulldogs head 1-0 into Columbia, South Carolina for week two.
