Georgia hit the practice fields again this week, and one storyline making the rounds was that Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart was using the Alabama game as a motivational tool.
 
 
The third-year coach was reportedly not happy with the way his team was practicing, so he put up the 2018 College Football Playoff national championship on the big screen inside Georgia’s indoor practice facility.
 
 
Well, now we have some clarity on the matter thanks to Bulldogs center Lamont Gaillard.
 
 
“It was something to remind us,” Gaillard said following practice. “It’s not motivational or anything, we just had it there for some situational stuff that we use.”
 
 

 
 
As for Gaillard, he did take motivation from the Bulldogs’ overtime loss in early January into spring practice. He didn’t stay focused on it too long, though.
 
 
“[Coach Smart and I] talked about it, then we just let it move on,” Gaillard said. “That’s all.”
 
 
Elsewhere, the debate as to who Gaillard will be snapping the ball to come September is still up in the air. Quarterbacks Jake Fromm and Justin Fields have done battle every practice, but no clear front-runner has emerged yet.
 
 
“[Jake] is a competitor,” Gaillard said. “He’s just going to come compete every day. Jake’s going to be Jake, and that’s what we need from him.”
 
 
Worth noting: Fields struggled with snaps under center. He fumbled twice faking handoffs against air, and his accuracy dropped dramatically when under center.
 
 
The Bulldogs hit the practice field again today.
