Valdosta native, Glen Schumann was Kirby Smart’s first high as football coach at the University of Georgia. Schumann will join Smart’s staff in an as yet undisclosed role. However, it appears that Schumann will be leaving Alabama right away and serve as smarts advance-man while the new head coach finishes his duties with the Crimson Tide.
Glen Schumann’s current title is player development/player personnel according to the official Alabama website.
Football Scoop had the following to say about Mr. Schumann:
A source told FootballScoop Alabama’s defensive game-planning meetings consist of three people: Saban, Smart and Glen Schumann. Schumann is a well-hidden gear in the machine, titled only “player development/player personnel” on Alabama’s staff directory. There is no bio to be found. A Google web and image search bring nothing. But Schumann is a key member of the Tide’s defensive staff, tasked with taking Saban and Smart’s ideas and putting them into words the rest of the staff and players can comprehend.
According to Jake Rowe of 247Sports.com:
Schumann wasted no time getting to work. He took a recruiting trip to deep south Georgia, Homerville to be exact, to visit with four-star defensive end commitment Chauncey Manac.
The Kirby Smart era begins with the announcement of a phantom coach hiiden away in the Alabama program coming into his own at Georgia. Look for Glen Schumann to emerge as an defensive assistant coach (just a guess).
