Georgia soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Wake Forest in the season opener at the newly renovated Turner Soccer Complex on Friday night.
Five Bulldogs made their first starts on the field to begin the 2017 season. Sophomore Jessie Harvey started in goal for Georgia and senior Alex Pallo started at midfield alongside three freshmen, including Mollie Belisle, Kayla Bruster, and Reagan Glisson.
“The effort was great,” Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. “I thought we accomplished a lot as far as our effort was concerned. We definitely made mistakes and Wake Forest punished us for those mistakes. It’s something for us to learn from. We put up a good battle, but unfortunately, we didn’t finish our chances. We had some pretty good ones in the first half and we didn’t finish those.”
Kelsey Killean had a chance to put the Bulldogs on the board with a shot from outside the box, that hit the crossbar, in the 27th minute. Reagan Glisson followed the rebound with a shot of her own that soared just high of the goal.
Wake Forest’s Peyton Perea scored the goal that ultimately decided the game in the 38th minute of action.
The Bulldogs turned the momentum offensively in the second half, but could not finish their chances. Georgia took four shots to Wake Forest’s two in the final 45 minutes of play.
The Bulldogs cap off the opening weekend in Athens against High Point on Sunday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free.
