The UGA soccer team kick off their 2017 spring season with a trip to Jacksonville, Florida to face the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University on Sunday. The games are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
“We are excited to get a chance to play our first spring match,” Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. “It’s nice to be able to play one before spring break. A lot of times we spend our eight hours doing a lot of running and lifting, so it’s great to be able to reward the team with the opportunity to play. The team has trained hard both on and off the field and we look forward to play against some new faces, which will provide different challenges for us.”
The University of North Florida is coming off a 6-9-2 season in 2016. The Ospreys advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 ASUN Conference Championship before falling to Stetson.
Jacksonville University went 4-11-1 during the 2016 season. The Dolphins fell to Kennesaw State in the first round of the ASUN Conference Tournament.
Georgia is coming off a 6-11-1 campaign that saw the Bulldogs finish just shy of a bid to the conference tournament. Georgia won its final game of the season on the road at Kentucky to finish the season 3-7 in SEC play.
Earlier this month, Lesesne announced the addition of eleven signees to the Georgia soccer program. Three early enrollees will participate in spring action with the rest joining the team in time for the fall.
“This is the first time our early enrollees will step on the field in a Georgia uniform,” Lesesne said. “That adds a little more to the excitement surrounding this weekend.”
