The Georgia Bulldogs’ soccer team kicked off their 2017 spring season with a 3-0 win over the University of North Florida and also played to a 1-1 tie with Jacksonville University during a two-game card on Sunday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, FL.
“It was a good first outing for us,” head coach Billy Lesesne said. “We had a chance to see our progress. We now have some film to break down and see how we played against different oppositions. The game against Jacksonville University was a bit more physical and challenging for us, but overall I think it was a day for critiquing, The girls handled it well and it was a pretty good result all-in-all.”
Early enrollee Reagan Glisson scored the first goal of the game with a perfectly played ball from Delaney Fechalos. Carly Settles scored the next goal for Georgia, firing a shot from outside the box. The Bulldogs tacked on one more with a goal from Kelsey Killean early in the second half to defeat the Ospreys 3-0 on their home field.
In the next game, Georgia gave up one goal to Jacksonville University. Less than two minutes after the Dolphins scored, Mariel Gutierrez scored the equalizer through a scramble in the box. No extra time was played, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
Georgia returns to the pitch on Saturday, March 18 with a game against Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina in Greenville, South Carolina.
