Last Time Out: The team went 1-1 last weekend splitting a pair of SEC matches. Georgia knocked off Mississippi State, 2-0, at home last Friday night to earn their second conference victory of the season. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead in the second minute when Marion Crowder headed in a cross from Bria Washington in the right side of the box. Georgia struck again in the 69’ when Lauren Tanner was fouled in the penalty box. The junior called her own number and drilled the PK to give the Dawgs a 2-0 advantage. Salty defense for the remaining 21 minutes secured the shutout for the home squad.
The team traveled north two days later to take on the Mizzou Tigers. Georgia was unable to get anything going, ultimately falling to the Tigers, 2-0.
Looking at the Crimson Tide: Alabama got off to a quick start early in the season, but has fallen on hard times since. The team began the season 4-4-2, only to lose its last five games. Alabama defeated LSU at home, 3-2, for its lone conference win to kick off SEC play.
The Crimson Tide looks towards three different players to do most of its damage offensively. Celia Jiminez Delgado, Lacey Clarida and Alexis Mouton have combined to score eight of the team’s 12 goals this season, with Jiminez Degaldo leading the way with four goals.
Georgia and Alabama rank similarly in several different statistics. Alabama has tallied 12 goals on the season to Georgia’s 11. Defensively, the Bulldogs have given up 24 goals on the season compared to Alabama’s 22. The Crimson Tide have used two different goal keepers on the year. Emily Rusk has seen the majority of the minutes, but Kat Stratton has seen action in five games.
Georgia holds an 11-6-1 all time record against Alabama, but the Crimson Tide have won the last three including a 2-0 victory last year.
