The Georgia women’s soccer team is set for the Southeastern Conference tournament as the No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 seed Vanderbilt on Monday at 7 p.m. ET in Orange Beach, Alabama.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia in the SEC Tournament: The Bulldogs are making their tenth trip to the SEC Tournament in the last 11 seasons and 17th overall appearance. Georgia’s record in the conference tournament is 11-16-1, with three trips to the finals – most recently in 2008.
[su_spacer size=”40″] In 2014 Georgia defeated Arkansas on penalty kicks before falling to Texas A&M, 3-0, in quarterfinal action.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Last Time Out: The Bulldogs dropped a tough game at home vs. No. 6 Florida to close out the regular season. The Gators made it hard for UGA to find much success ultimately taking the contest, 3-0.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia vs. Vanderbilt Previous Matchup: Georgia defeated Vanderbilt, 3-1, in the two squads’ regular season matchup on Oct. 23 in Nashville. It was one of the best games the Dawgs played all season and a match that had crucial implications on the team earning a bid to Orange Beach.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia jumped right out of the gates scoring in the second minute with Bella Hartley finishing off a pass from Becca Rasmussen. 15 minutes later Marion Crowder kept the ball rolling scoring a header in the 16th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Senior Cara Smith scored her first goal of the season just before halftime to give UGA a 3-0 lead.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia played stout defense for the remaining 45 minutes allowing only one goal in the 74th minute during desperation mode. UGA goalkeeper Louise Hogrell was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Looking at the Commodores: Vanderbilt also enters the match with a lot of confidence after going on the road and defeating No. 12 Ole Miss. It was a must-win game for the Commodores and they scored the lone goal of the match in the 85th minute to punch their ticket to the SEC tournament.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Commodores are led on offense by junior forward Simone Charley. The Hoover, Alabama native is a multi-sport athlete earning All-American honors in the triple-jump in track and field three times. Vanderbilt runs its offense around her using her speed to try and out run the defense. Charley has five goals and four assists on the season.
