Goalkeeper Louise Hogrell has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after Georgia’s crucial road wins over Vanderbilt and No. 16 Auburn, the league announced Monday. This marks the third time Hogrell has earned SEC weekly honors.
The Asa, Sweden native made save after save during Georgia’s two-win weekend. In Georgia’s 3-1 win over Vanderbilt, Hogrell kept the scoreboard clean for 73 minutes before the Commodores snuck in a goal in desperation mode. The highlight of the weekend was Hogrell’s performance on the road vs. No. 16 Auburn. She had several spectacular saves throughout the game shutting out one of the nation’s top teams, 1-0. The shutout marked the first time that Auburn was beaten on its home turf all year long. No matter what the Tigers threw at Hogrell, she was a brick wall for all 90 minutes. On the weekend, she made 11 saves.
The Bulldog’s 1-0 win marked only the third time this season that the Tigers had been shutout and Hogrell’s fourth shutout on the year.
The Bulldogs are back in action this Thursday at 7 p.m. ET hosting rival Florida. The game will be televised nationally on the SEC Network.
