An eight-run sixth inning led No. 4 Alabama (45-10, 16-7) to rally past No. 15 Georgia (39-16, 11-12), securing the series for the Crimson Tide on Saturday.
Georgia led 7-1 with one out in Alabama’s sixth, but seven hits and three walks in the frame did the Bulldogs in, as Georgia couldn’t rally in the seventh.
Brittany Gray (11-8) took the loss, going 5.1 innings with eight hits and all nine runs against her, including eight being earned. The sophomore walked five and struck out four. Kylie Bass finished out the final two outs of the game, allowing a hit in three batters faced.
Georgia took six hits off of Alexis Osorio (14-6), as Alex Hugo was 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of walks and Samantha LaZear finished with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Tina Iosefa continued her climb in the RBI rankings, as she now has 77 on the season with a grand slam in the game.
After Alabama used two hits and an error to go up 1-0 in the third, Georgia made it a 5-1 game with Alyssa DiCarlo starting it off on a RBI single. With bases loaded, Iosefa came through with her fourth grand slam of the year, giving Georgia its first lead of the series.
Hugo made it a 7-1 advantage in the sixth with the Bulldogs’ second home run of the game. However, the Tide came back in the bottom half, as five-consecutive, bases-loaded RBI singles guided the home team to eight runs to seal the 9-7 victory.
Georgia’s regular season concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. ET game at Alabama. The game can be watched in its entirety on SEC Network+/WatchESPN while whip around viewings of all the day’s SEC games can be viewed on SEC Network’s Bases Loaded coverage.
