Softball: Bad Night in Tuscaloosa, Dawg Fall 7-2

The No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs (39-15, 11-11) took a 7-2 setback on Friday night at No. 4 Alabama (44-10, 15-7).
 
 
The Crimson Tide took three home runs off of Chelsea Wilkinson (22-6), finishing her night with six hits allowed and five of the seven runs earned. Kylie Bass entered for two frames with one hit and five walks given out, but holding Alabama scoreless while getting out of a bases-loaded, no-outs fifth inning.
 
 
Alyssa DiCarlo put Georgia’s runs on the board, knocking out her 11th home run of the year and ninth in conference action. Her hit came in the fifth, scoring Alex Hugo after she reached on her second walk of the night.
 
 
Georgia had five hits against Sydney Littlejohn (22-4), as Lacey Sumerlin took two of those. Littlejohn also walked four and struck out three.
 
 
Back-to-back home runs from the Tide put the home team up 3-0 in the opening frame. Leona Lafaele hit a two-run shot over centerfield while Marisa Runyon sent hers just fair down the right field line.
 
 
After adding one in the second, Alabama increased its lead to 7-0 after four, as a three-run fourth inning saw Haylie McCleney hit the team’s third home run of the game.
 
 
The series continues on Saturday with a noon ET game featured on ESPN. Beth Mowins and Michele Smith will be on the call for the network.
