NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia senior student-athletes Brittany Gray and Cortni Emanuel were both drafted in the 2018 National Pro Fastpitch Draft Monday evening.
Gray was selected by the Beijing Shougang Eagles as the 14th pick while Emanuel was selected as the 23rd and final pick by the USSSA Pride.
Gray and Emanuel become the 12th and 13th Georgia Bulldogs to be drafted in the NPF. Gray is the highest pick out of Georgia since Chelsea Wilkenson was taken as the 14th pick in 2016. 2016 was also the last time Georgia had two student-athletes drafted in the same year.
Gray capped her career in a Bulldog uniform with a tremendous senior season. She went 16-1 in the circle with a 0.48 ERA with 134 strikeouts. Her 2018 ERA qualified for the best single-season ERA at Georgia. She earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors to begin the 2018 season.
In her career, she ranks fifth in wins (60), ERA (2.06), and appearances (126) while coming in sixth in strikeouts (495), games started (84), shutouts (22.5), and innings pitched (518.2).
Emanuel leads the team this season batting .433 while also leading in hits (71) and runs (54). In her senior season, she has swiped 42 bags. It’s the third time in her career she has cracked Georgia’s single-season top-10 list in the category. The most she has had in a season was 45 as a freshman in 2015.
In her career, Emanuel is one of only three Georgia Bulldogs to record 300 hits in her career, ranking third all-time with 311. She also ranks third with 212 runs scored. She ranks second in career stolen bases with 163 behind Nicole Barber’s 257.
Emanuel is a two-time NFCA All-American and has earned SEC honors in each of her first three years in a Bulldog uniform. Prior to the 2018 season, she was named to the USA Softball Top 50 Collegiate Player of the Year watch list. Last season, she was one of 34 finalists for the award.
