The Georgia softball team’s 2017 season came to an end on Sunday as the Bulldogs fell to No. Florida State in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional final 8-5.

The Bulldogs finish the year with a 35-23 record while making their 16th consecutive appearance in a NCAA regional. The weekend wrapped the collegiate careers of five seniors, including Sydni Emanuel, Bekah Farris, Maeve McGuire, Kayleigh Medlin and Lindsey Miles.

Georgia outhit the Seminoles by one, collecting 10 in the game after being led by Alyssa DiCarlo’s three-hit, four-RBI performance. Cortni Emanuel was close behind with two hits while putting up a team-best two runs. Kylie Bass (9-4) took the loss after allowing seven hits and seven runs while Brittany Gray finished the final three innings with two hits and one run.

Florida State jumped out to an early lead with a two-run home run from Jessie Warren before a three-run third made it 5-0. Georgia worked its way around the bases in the bottom third, bringing in two to make it 5-2. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for DiCarlo to notch a two-RBI double.

FSU’S lead extended back to five in the next inning with a home run by Dani Morgan before DiCarlo countered with her 13th home run of the season, putting a 0-1 ball over the centerfield wall. A bases-loaded walk in the top seventh brought in FSU’s last run.

Georgia looked primed for a rally in its final plate appearances. Singles by C. Emanuel and S. Emanuel allowed DiCarlo to record her fourth RBI of the game before a RBI single by McGuire made it an 8-5 ball game. However, a call to the bullpen brought in FSU’s Jessica Burroughs where a double play would finish the game.
