Georgia softball team junior Cortni Emanuel was named SEC Player of the Week and Amanda Ablan was named SEC Freshman of the Week following the Lady Diamond Dogs closing out the regular season by taking the series against the No. 24 Arkansas Razorbacks on the road.

C. Emanuel was named Player of the Week after hitting .636 for the weekend while Ablan notched Freshman of the Week accolades after holding Arkansas hitless in the series finale. The pair of awards gives Georgia four SEC honors this year, as Ciara Bryan earned Freshman of the Week and Lacey Sumerlin was named Player of the Week earlier this season.

C. Emanuel jumpstarted the Georgia offense after posting seven hits, as every game saw her post two or more hits. The junior now has 23 multi-hit games this season, as the three hits she had in the finale gave her seven games with three or more this year. The slap hitter scored five times against Arkansas while she was 2-for-2 in stolen bases.

C. Emanuel’s consistency at the plate keeps her ranked first among SEC players in batting average (.410), hits (34) and stolen bases (12) in conference-only stats. It’s the second weekly honor of the Texas native’s career, as she earned SEC Freshman of the Week in 2015.

Ablan had the best outing of her freshman season, throwing 4.1 hitless frames in the weekend’s final game. Earning her second win of the year, Ablan didn’t allow a baserunner until a walk in the third before another reached via a walk with one out in the fifth. Her five strikeouts tied a personal best for the Georgia native. Ablan and the Georgia pitching staff held Arkansas to a .160 batting average for the weekend.
