The No. 25 Georgia softball team downed Jacksonville State by a score of 4-2 on Friday, staying in the winner’s bracket and advancing in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
A three-run third inning sealed the win for the Bulldogs, as four consecutive two-out hits set Georgia up with a 3-1 lead. Sydni Emanuel reached first with a hit through the left side before Alyssa DiCarlo followed with her own. Maeve McGuire brought in S. Emanuel to tie it up while Lacey Sumerlin gave Georgia the lead with a two-RBI double.
A. DiCarlo, M. McGuire, and L. Sumerlin all had two hits in the game, as Georgia finished with nine against Whitney Gillespie (20-5). Kylie Bass (8-3) earned the complete-game win for Georgia, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out seven.
JSU jumped ahead in the second to a 1-0 lead before Georgia rallied in the third. The Bulldogs held the Gamecocks for three scoreless frames before a two-out solo home run in the sixth cut the Georgia advantage to 3-2. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after Kendall Burton singled, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout from Mahlena O’Neal.
