The No. 12/12 Georgia softball team completed the three-game sweep of the Ole Miss Rebels with a 4-0 shutout win on Sunday, April 12 in Oxford, Miss. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 35-10 on the year and 11-7 in Southeastern Conference action, while Ole Miss dropped to 23-19 overall and 5-13 in the SEC. The win marked the second SEC series sweep this season.

Chelsea Wilkinson (21-6) got her fourth win of the week in the complete-game performance. She allowed just three hits and struck out six batters. Madi Osias (7-11) got the start and took the loss. She allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. Kayla Landwehrmier threw the final 2.2 innings for Ole Miss.

Georgia got runners aboard in each of the first three innings, but finally broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth. Paige Wilson became the fourth leadoff hitter to reach in the game when she led off the inning with a single to shallow left. With one out, Tina Iosefa blasted a two-run home run to left center to give Georgia a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Sydni Emanuel got the inning started with a single to short. With two on after a walk to Alex Hugo, Anna Swafford laid down a bunt single, but the throw to first sailed over the head of the first baseman, allowing S. Emanuel to score. Paige Wilson followed with a RBI single to first that scored Hugo and gave Georgia a 4-0 lead.

Ole Miss looked to answer in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting two on by way of a single and walk. A fielder’s choice recorded the second out and got the lead runner. Wilkinson settled in to induce a popup to short to end the threat and the inning.

With her team leading 4-0, Wilkinson kept the shutout in tact by retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh.

Georgia returns to action on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m., when it welcomes USC Upstate to Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. The game is the first of five-straight home games for the Bulldogs and will be aired on the SEC Network+.
