In a weekend softball series in Baton Rouge, LA which featured two top-15 teams in No. 15 Georgia and No. 11 LSU, the Bulldogs were on the short end of the stick in a pitchers’ duel as they lost to the Tigers in both games of Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Georgia softball team were not able to generate any runs on the day and fell to LSU 2-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two at Tiger Park. Both teams combined for just six hits in game one and only four in the later contest.

LSU put up game one’s first hits and runs in the third inning, notching a 2-0 lead with a bases-loaded hit off the left field wall. The Tigers totaled four hits in the game with three coming in that third frame, as Mary Wilson Avant (5-3) threw the complete game with three walks and two strikeouts.

Cortni Emanuel tabbed Georgia’s two hits while the junior along with Lacey Sumerlin and Maeve McGuire also walked. Allie Walljasper (10-1) kept the Bulldog bats at bay in seven innings of work.

In the day’s final game, LSU got a 1-0 lead it needed in the first after Bailey Landry was issued a one-out walk. Landry moved into scoring position with a stolen base before a fielding error gave the Tigers the run.

Brittany Gray (16-4) held the Tigers to just two hits in the game while she walked five and struck out two. LSU’s Sydney Smith (7-1) also gave up two hits with Sumerlin and Alysen Febrey recording one each.
