The No. 6 ranked Georgia Bulldog softball team (42-7,15-5) defeated No. 17 ranked Alabama (28-17,8-12) 4-3 Saturday evening at a packed Jack Turner Stadium.
 
 
In what was one of the most exciting games of the season, Georgia rallied late in the last inning to beat the Crimson Tide on a walk-off single from Mahlena O’Neal.
 
 

 
 
Alabama dominated for the majority of the game keeping the Bulldogs scoreless all the way until the fifth inning. Amanda Ablan started the game but was pulled in the second inning and relieved by Kylie Bass who got the win (13-2) after a shaky start. Bass pitched the remainder of the game and only surrendered one run.
 
 
Alabama scored two runs in the second inning and another in the fourth before Georgia was able to add a few themselves. While the offensive production was nowhere to be found for most of the game, the Bulldogs added two runs in the fifth inning. Kendall Burton scored on an Emanuel hit that resulted in an infield error and a sacrifice fly by Justice Milz brought in the other run putting the team down 3-2.
 
 
Georgia’s defense kept Alabama at bay and put the team in a position to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning down 3-2. An Emanuel and Milz single started the inning off strong for the Bulldogs followed by an intentional walk of Alyssa DiCarlo to make the bases loaded with only one out.
 
 
With Alysen Febrey up to bat and bases loaded, she was hit by a pitch that scored Emanuel tying the game 3-3. With bases loaded once more, Mahlena O’Neal had the play of the game with a walk-off single to right field scoring Kaylie Harding giving Georgia the comeback win 4-3.
 
 
“I’m proud of their resilience,” head coach Lu-Harris Champer said. “They didn’t let distractions get in the way early and we were able to overcome some stuff that we needed to overcome and really just embrace the battle and come out on top.”
