Behind three hits from Sydni Emanuel and Brea Dickey, the No. 12 Georgia softball team (24-3) closed out Kennesaw State (15-9) by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday.
S. Emanuel and Dickey were the only Bulldogs to notch multiple hits, as the Bulldogs totaled 11 hits off of three Owl pitchers. The duo also had multi-RBI games with S. Emanuel tallying two and Dickey with a trio. Maeve McGuire added three runs to the Georgia score, tying her career high.
In the circle, Chelsea Wilkinson (12-1) earned the win after giving up five hits and a walk while striking out seven in her five innings of action. Brittany Gray closed out the win, throwing two scoreless frames with three strikeouts.
Cortni Emanuel added the game’s first run after getting hit by pitch in her opening at-bat, as she has reached base in all 27 games this season. The speedster made her way home on a Kaylee Puailoa RBI. Georgia added one more in the second inning with S. Emanuel hitting in McGuire.
A four-run third added cushion room after Kennesaw State plated one in the top half. A bases-loaded single from Samantha LaZear scored one before a hit and throwing error in S. Emanuel’s appearance recorded two more. Dickey followed with a RBI hit of her own before recording a two-RBI hit in the fifth inning to finish off the game at 8-1.
Georgia opens its SEC slate this weekend, heading to Columbia to face South Carolina. The series begins on Saturd and 2ay with Sunda2y and Monday’s games on the SEC Network.
