The No. 10 ranked Bulldogs started off the day hot with an 8-0 victory over Winthorp, but had to fight to the very end in their second game, which was against Syracuse, to earn the win.

In the Bulldogs first game, they put on an absolutely dominant performance. The offense got the scoring going in the third inning, as they quickly took a 5-0 lead after having a four-hit inning, which also saw their opponents commit three errors. Maeve McGuire added to the Bulldogs’ lead with a hit that drove in two runs and a hit from Lacey Sumerlin which drove in the Bulldogs’ final run.

This 8-0 victory ended in the fifth and the win was attributed to Bulldogs’ pitcher Brittany Gray, who pitched four scoreless innings and earned six strikeouts in that timeframe.

Brittany Gray (1-0) earned the win after going four innings in the circle. The junior struck out six before freshman Amanda Ablan entered in the fifth allowing two base runners with a strikeout. The duo gave up just three hits.

The Bulldogs’ second match was against the Syracuse Orange and was a much closer affair. The Bulldogs went into the final inning trailing the Orange 5-2. The bases were eventually loaded for junior outfielder Kendall Burton and she hit a bases-clearing triple, which tied the game up at 5. The Bulldogs’ very next batter was junior outfielder Cortni Emanuel and she knocked in Burton to hand the Bulldogs’ the walk-off victory.

Looking to stay perfect, The Bulldogs have another doubleheader Saturday as they will face East Carolina at 12:30 p.m. and will have a rematch with Syracuse at 3 p.m.
