Wednesday evening, Dillon Bell and Oscar Delp spoke to the media heading into a clash with Ball State this coming Saturday. The Bulldog playmakers are exciting young weapons for Mike Bobo to scheme with, and both should prominently feature against the Cardinals.

Bell took the podium first and dissected his role on the team as he enters his second year in the program. Bell is a versatile player who played numerous positions throughout high school. His pure athleticism helped him see early playing time last year as just a true freshman, but as he enters another year within the Bulldogs’ program, Georgia expects the wideout to take on a larger offensive role.

While Bell was answering questions, concerns about Georgia’s running back depth were raised. Bell revealed that he did take reps at the position during fall camp and admitted that he is willing to do whatever Coach Smart and the Georgia coaching staff view as best for the team.

The wideout touched on his recruiting process and largely attributed his decision to attend UGA to former Bulldog and current Longhorn AD Mitchell. Bell told the media that he and Mitchell went to middle school together, and he was always someone he admired. Fortunately for Bulldog fans, Bell clarified that he has no plans to follow Mitchell to the University of Texas.

Delp followed at the podium. The tight end capped off his Week 1 with an exceptional touchdown grab late in the game off of a Brock Vandagriff pass. Delp described the play by saying “I saw the play call and knew there was an opportunity for me to get the ball out there. Had good protection and a lot of green grass. Good throw.”

Delp is another young player on the offensive side of the football who will be tasked with playing big minutes this year. The West Forsyth product fills the void left behind by Darnell Washington. While Washington was predominantly used for his blocking, Delp’s receiving skills position him as an aerial threat. It is impossible to replicate Darnell Washington’s enormous size as a tight end, but Delp has put on considerable weight this offseason, and he will play a factor as a blocker at the line of scrimmage.

Of course, Delp was asked about Brock Bowers. Delp described his tight end partner by saying “he’s a unicorn.” Certainly, we all knew this, but we sure do appreciate having number 19 wearing red and black.

The Bulldogs’ young offensive stars look to make a statement this week after facing some criticism following a slow start against UT Martin. Keep your eyes out for number 4 and 86, as the sophomores are poised to deliver a dominant offensive performance in Week 2.
