Georgia needed late game heroics by Russel Tchewa to top LSU and improve to 4-2 in conference play Wednesday. Now the Bulldogs arrive in Gainesville with a chance to pick up their third SEC road victory of the month.
Florida is streaking. After losing big at Tennessee on January 16th, the Gators have won 2 straight: downing Missouri on the road and beating Mississippi State at home on Wednesday. Gator guard Will Richard provided a team high 23 points in the win over MSU.
Most of Florida’s scoring comes via Will Clayton Jr., who is averaging 16 points per contest. Clayton left the game Wednesday with what appeared to be a serious wrist injury, but later returned to help his squad pick up the win.
The Gators are powered in the paint by 6’10” Tyrese Samuel. The senior from Montreal, Quebec is good for 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. Samuel has converted an impressive 60 percent of his shots throughout the season.
Florida has the edge in the size department, meaning UGA will likely need to cash in at a higher rate from behind the arc Saturday. Against LSU, Georgia hit just 29 percent of its deep balls. That’s comfortably (or uncomfortably) below the Dawgs’ season average of 35 percent.
The Gators were the slight betting favorite as of Friday evening. Whoever emerges victorious gains solid footing in the top half of the SEC standings. Saturday’s winner also receives a postseason résumé boost – a coveted prize for two programs currently on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

Georgia’s Russel Tchewa provided a clutch double-double (11pts, 11rebs) Wednesday. The Dawgs will need his presence – and physicality – in a big way Saturday.
For the Gators, Samuel has come up big the past two tilts. He went 5-of-9 at Missouri then backed up that performance with a 6-for-11 showing Wednesday.
Who’s not
Jabri Abdur-Rahim shot 2-of-10 (1-of-8 3PT) against LSU. Minding past trends, Abdur-Rahim’s usually at his best coming off a poor performance. The Dawgs need their leading scorer to heat back up in Gainesville.
Although Florida’s Zyon Pullin shot an admirable 46 percent Wednesday, he’s gone just 14-for-40 from the field over the Gator’s last four games. That said, Pullin has shown he’s capable of much more – as evidenced by 22 and 23-point games against Michigan and Kentucky, respectively.
