In the bottom of the third inning, first baseman Corey Collins was able to reach after being hit by a pitch. Marant also reached base after being hit. With two outs, infielder Trey King was also able to reach with a walk, loading the bases for Carter. Carter walked, bringing home Collins and making the score 3-0. Georgia would score three more runs off of bases loaded walks, and an RBI single from Condon capped off a five run inning for the Dawgs.

In the bottom of the fourth, catcher Henry Hunter doubled to right, and was followed by another walk by Carter. Hunter was driven in by another RBI single from Alford. The next at bat, Condon drilled a sharp line drive that hit pitcher Justin Needles. UNC Asheville first baseman Michael Groves was not able to catch Needles’ throw to first, allowing Alford to score Georgia’s ninth run.

It was not until the seventh inning that UNC Asheville posed a scoring threat. Left fielder Corbin Lanowitz struck out, but was able to reach first base due to a passed ball on the third strike. Third baseman Cameron Johnson singled in the next at bat, and both runners advanced into scoring position after a groundout by Groves. However, Georgia pitcher Josh Roberge was able to preserve the shutout after striking out second baseman Ty Kaufman.

In the bottom of the seventh, shortstop Kolby Branch led off the inning with a walk, and advanced all the way to third after a wild pitch by Nick Bruno. Paul Toetz pinch hit for Marant and drove in the tenth and final run with an RBI single, ending the game in the seventh inning.

Georgia’s pitching staff had another terrific outing on the mound. Starting pitcher Leighton Finley took the win, going four innings with no runs, one hit, and five strikeouts. Josh Roberge was dealing out of the bullpen, throwing three shutout innings with one hit and three strikeouts. Roberge was credited with the save.

Wes Johnson’s Bulldogs now sit at 3-0 for the season after this weekend’s sweep at Foley Field. His team will continue play on Tuesday in Atlanta against Georgia State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
