Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report: Georgia vs. South Carolina. It’s like eating chicken on a Saturday afternoon. Which is exactly what the Dawgs need to do as the Lamecocks come to town this weekend.
This is a critical game as our opponent is not good and the Dawgs cannot afford lose home games to bad teams. The Dawgs need to win six or seven home games and three or four in the road in the SEC and we’ll most likely make the Big Dance. So we don’t have a lot of wiggle room in Stegemann. But before we talk about our next game, let’s look at what happened in Columbia, MO on Wednesday night.
The Dawgs hit the road for a 9 pm game vs Mizzu in their mid-week tilt. Unfortunately, it looks like we fell asleep at halftime. It was a very weird game. The Dawgs didn’t play good in the first half but still led by three. I honestly don’t remember Yante Maten scoring in the first half. While he did score in the second half, so did Mizzu. Over and over and over.
They outscored us 48-33 and won by 12. UGA was led in scoring by Tyree Crump and Turtle Jackson with ten each. No one else got in double digits. While Mizzou is a good team, the game was there for the taking. We just weren’t ready to play. Our offense was quite honestly offensive. While we’ve struggled offensively as a team several times this year, we’ve been able to win some of those games because Maten was so good. However, with him only putting up nine this week, the Dawgs were outmatched from the time the horn sounded to leave the locker room at the half.
Up next is another team from another Columbia. The Lamecocks were a Final Four team last year. They will be again this year in my opinion. They will be one of the final four teams in total SEC wins at the end of the year. They are not good and the Dawgs cannot afford to lose this game. If we did, we most likely won’t make the NCAAs and quite frankly wouldn’t deserve to.
However, I don’t think we will lose. I think we bounce back and have a big game. Maten may put up 30. The Dawgs are spotting five and I’m loading up. We’ve got to get the offense back in gear and a big dose of the Lamers will be just what the doctor ordered. We need to guys to step up and help Yante. Also, we’ve done a good job of limiting the turnovers of late. Mizzu changed that. Let’s just hope it was merely one of those nights and not a trend.
Ok, we’re 2-2 in the SEC. Undefeated at home and winless on the road. As stated, we’ve got to win six or seven home game this year. Dropping one to these guys would be lethal. We need to pack the Stegasaurus. A raucous crowd makes a huge difference. We actually had a sellout last Saturday for a noon game. This one is 1 pm. That’s one more hour to drink! So let’s grab a few bloodys in Five Points and walk on over. We’ve got to have this to get the train back on the track. Go Dawgs!!
