Photos/Video: Bulldogs Use Home Court Advantage to Take Down In-State Rival Georgia Tech, 76-62

On Tuesday night, the Georgia Bulldogs Men’s Basketball team defeated Georgia Tech 76-62, extending their winning streak to four games. Georgia’s offensive attack was lead by Noah Thomasson’s 16-point performance. He was one of four Bulldogs to end the night with a double digit point total.

From the start of the game, the Bulldogs, in front of an energetic student section, took command early due to miscues by the Yellow Jackets. Georgia’s defense helped continue the struggles on the court for Tech, keeping them scoreless for a nearly six-minute stretch during the first half. As the first half came to an end, Georgia guard Noah Thomasson drained a three-pointer to give the Dawgs a 36-20 lead heading into the half.

The Yellow Jackets came out swinging to start the second half, scoring 12 quick points to contain Georgia’s lead to 13 with 14 minutes to go. Moments later, Georgia’s Blue Cain re-electrified the crowd with a three-pointer to swing the momentum back into the Bulldogs’ favor. With just under 10 minutes to go, senior guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim converted an impressive and-one to put the Bulldogs up by 23 points, their largest lead of the night.

Once again, Georgia Tech made a run of their own, going on a 9-0 run and bringing Georgia’s lead back down to 14 with 7:31 left in the contest. Fresh out of a timeout, Georgia’s Blue Cain was back at it again, nailing another three-point shot to once again bring Stegman Coliseum back to life and end any hopes of a Yellow Jacket comeback win. Cain finished the night with 12 points, shooting 4/7 from behind the arc.

After the game, Head Coach Mike White mentioned that the “crowd was a big factor in helping us defensively” and that Stegman Coliseum is “a great place to play”. Georgia will look to continue their home success next Saturday evening when the Bulldogs take on High Point.
