WBB: Maya Caldwell and Jenna Staiti Named to SEC All-Tournament Team

Georgia Lady Bulldog seniors Maya Caldwell and Jenna Staiti were named to the 2021 Southeastern Conference All-Tournament Team, the league office announced Sunday evening. 

The two combined to lead Georgia to the SEC tournament championship game after wins against No. 17 Kentucky and No. 2 Texas A&M. It was the team’s first appearance in the finals since 2004. 

Caldwell was Georgia’s leading scorer in the tournament, averaging 15.3 points per game. The Charlotte, N.C., native paced the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points against Kentucky in the quarterfinals and 19 versus Texas A&M in the semis. 

 

 

 

 

Staiti posted a trio of double-figure scoring games and a pair of double-doubles. In the opening win against the Wildcats, she scored 20 points to go with 12 boards. She then scored 13 points and brought down 12 rebounds against the Aggies.

The Lady Bulldogs just completed their magnificent run in the SEC tournament, falling to No. 7 South Carolina, 67-62, in the championship. Georgia will travel to San Antonio, Texas to participate in the NCAA tournament, which begins March 21.
