Sherman is the second 5-Star commitment of the 2020 Class for the Dawgs and is the 8th overall commitment for the Georgia Football program for the respective recruiting class. His decision propelled Georgia into the top 10 as it relates to the top recruiting classes in the nation per 247Sports Composite Rankings. With Sherman deciding to play for “Kirby and company” in the future, Georgia now has the 9th overall recruiting class for the Class of 2020.

The Sherman commitment is indeed an exciting one as he has been a top target for the Dawgs and a host of other Power 5 schools for some time now. So what ultimately played out to help ensure that the Georgia Football program gained the commitment from the future defensive star in Athens? DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell posed that question with the 5-Star D.C. product prior to his commitment announcement and received this reply as for the reasoning:

“It is [just] the simple fact that they recruited my family as well just the same way they recruited me”. “They realize how important my family is in my decision making.”

Sherman further elaborated on and proffered more insight as to why he chose the Dawgs over other top programs like Ohio State and LSU with Rusty Mansell of 247Sports:

“Not because they are the best school, not because they have the most draft picks, I chose Georgia because I felt like it was the right fit for me,” “I feel like if I am going to be as successful as I want to be and I feel like that school is Georgia. I think this team can win national championships, I think this team can mold me into the player I am today and the player I can be in the future.”

Sherman quickly took to Twitter on Thursday after the decision to play for the Georgia Football program was announced and thanked all of the coaches and collegiate football programs across the United States as well as all of the fan bases of those respective schools for their support while he was making his decision.

So what exactly is the Georgia Football program getting with the commitment of Class of 2020 5-Star OLB Mehail Sherman? The St. John’s College High School star is currently rated the the #2 overall OLB in the country, the #1 overall player in Washington, D.C., and the #11 overall player in the nation for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. The OLB is stout in stature and carries a great amount of quickness along with his frame of 6-3 and 234 pounds. He is physical and is intelligent in terms of the diagnostics of the plays in development on the gridiron, and he possesses better than average cover capabilities whether it be versus the pass or the run. As so, the addition of Sherman to the Georgia Football recruiting class for 2020 is crucial in terms of the future defensive outlook in Athens. Moreover, his decision to play for the Dawgs may prove to be monumental in other ways as he has weight and clout as a top recruit to be able to persuade other uncommitted players to join him to play on Saturdays “Between The Hedges” in “The Classic City”. With that said there is only one thing left to be uttered: Go Dawgs!!!
